Dude, Where’s My Shoe?

I have two adorable girls that will be 2 and 3 years old within a month.

The love all things princess and all things girlie…especially shoes.  Yes, they’re starting young.

They have dress up heels, sparkly shoes, tennis shoes, sandals…you name it they have it.

But you know their favorite shoes to wear?

Mine!

They go to my closet and put on my shoes.  Truth be told my oldest walks better in heels than I do.  The baby likes to put two different shoes and walk around the house.   They look adorable.  It cracks me up with they put on my Skechers Shape-Ups – they look like tiny little people in clown shoes.  :)

As adorable as they look in my shoes, their early shoe fetish has caused a problem.

I DON’T HAVE A MATCHING PAIR OF SHOES IN MY CLOSET!!!

Seriously, I spent more than 15 minutes this morning trying to find the “other” shoe that I wound up changing my pants to match the shoes I could find.

I hope this isn’t like the mystery sock story and they’re gone forever.  I really need to find my other black sandal heel.  They are the only new cute pair of shoes I have for Spring.

Sigh…

I know this could be worse. I’ve heard of kids hiding car keys and house keys and other important things.  But when you’re trying to get out of the house and you don’t have anything to wear?  That’s pretty severe.  Especially since I only have a few “public” worthy outfits to begin with.

Yet another “perk” of working from home – I don’t have to have a nice wardrobe.

So, what important item have your kids ever “lost” before?

Our First Try at Potty Training Was a Bust

Who knew potty training would be so stressful?

I certainly didn’t…but it was.  And we’ve only just begun.

We tried to potty train our oldest daughter last week and it was bad.  Really bad.

For some reason, she’s afraid of the potty but can’t explain why. What’s really odd and confusing was that she had gone to the potty successfully a few times a few months ago.  But it didn’t seem like the right time because she was still pretty wet in the mornings and had unpredictable patterns.

Since she had been waking up pretty dry we decided to give it a try.

Ugh.  I posted in a few places that potty training was going to drive me to drink.  FYI – I have maybe one alcoholic beverage a year.

Maybe.  I actually haven’t had any alcohol in almost 3 years.

To make a long story short, we decided to take a break with potty training.  I put her diaper back on and we put away the potties.

Before I get a bunch of comments about starting and never going back to diapers, let me explain.  My husband and I actually got scared because by daughter was holding going to the bathroom so she wouldn’t go in her panties.  While that might be a “good” thing so she can learn control, it was for an unbelievable amount of time.

More than 4 hours dry…I can’t even hold it in that long!

She was uncomfortable, cranky and it just wasn’t worth it.

So, we’ll try again in a few weeks.

In the meantime, we’ll be researching successful potty training “methods” and how to help her not be afraid of the potty. While I am a little concerned she won’t be potty trained by her 3rd birthday it’s OK.  I know it will happen eventually.

Maybe I can even potty train the two girls together and be done with it!  :D
