The Great Coffee Maker Debate: Tassimo vs. Keurig vs. ?

I want need a new coffee maker.  That’s not a typo – I did that on purpose.

I have a Phillips Senseo coffee maker and it works “fine” but, I don’t like it anymore.  Why? Because, ever since @TassimoCanada ran a Twitter promotion a couple of weeks ago, I have been ga-ga for a Tassimo brewing system.  There was a fury on Twitter for some lucky Canadians.  @TassimoCanada was giving away brewing systems complete with a huge assortment of TDisks.  If I remember correctly, (as in, don’t quote me on this) the only qualifications to get a machine were that you had to have at least 300 followers and a Canadian resident.

I watched the flood of tweets over the course of about a week from people who wanted one, people who got them, and the people who didn’t.  A simply genius marketing plan if you ask me. If you didn’t live in Canada, you were tweeting about why not “my country”.  If you did live in Canada, you actively tweeted to get the followers to qualify for the machine.  EVERYBODY seemed to be talking about @TassimoCanada and the Tassimo brewing systems.

I even got swept up in the excitement and did a little research on the Tassimo brewing systems.  I read enough to know my Phillips Senseo machine was no match for the Tassimo.  So now, I want one.  Terrible huh?

Well, before I drop down  huge chunk of change (unless Santa brings me one for Christmas!), I’d like to get some feedback on different coffee makers and brewing systems.

My Phillips Senseo machine works fine, and I can’t complain.  I got it for under $30 a year ago and the coffee selection is OK.  I really do like the Godiva Creme Brulee coffee pods.  But, there are two things that I really don’t like about it.

  1. The coffee is not hot.  It brews fine, but once I add a little milk, its room temperature at best. I don’t like to reheat freshly brewed coffee in the microwave – seems like such a waste.
  2. The selection of coffees is minimal, and that’s it, you can only buy coffee pods.  When I want tea or hot chocolate, I have to make it the old fashioned way.

I really like the individualized brewing systems because I can make just enough coffee for me.  My husband doesn’t drink coffee at all.  But he does like hot tea and hot chocolate in the winter.  So this type of machine would work out well for us.  I have also heard great things about the Keurig brewing systems.

So, if you have either of these brewing systems, I would love your feedback.  I want to make an informed decision before making a purchase.  Hopefully some of my Twitter followers who received a Tassimo Brewing system from @TassimoCanada will share their experiences with us.  So far, I have only heard raving reviews on Twitter.

So, which brewing system will it be?  Tassimo? Keurig? Or another system?  You decide!

i prefer Gevalia..it is popular NOT only because of the sensational taste and flavor that their coffee varieties have. What made this coffee club and manufacturer a crowd favorite is the fact that you could get wonderful deals and services that you won’t find anywhere else.

  • I"ve tried Gevalia too, but wasn't impressed with the taste of the coffee. I've had better coffees that are less expensive without the autoship commitment.
  • Based on customer reviews, coffee maker specifications and features I will go for Keurig.

I have the Keurig coffee system. I saw it for the first time this Christmas, and have since purchased one for myself! It's abosolutely great! The machine is very easy to use, the clean-up is a non-issue, and the coffee variety is unbeliveable. I purchased my machine from Costco, and it came with 90 K-cups to try. If you don't have (or run out) of the K-cups, you can also use your own regular brand of coffee. I love it, and will continue to try new flavours until I find the ones I like the best. If you are looking for a single cup coffee system, Keurig is a great investment!
  • I have philips coffee maker which works perfectly fine and wish to buy a new one and i think i will try out Keurig
  • Howdy!

I have owned a braun tassimo for about 3 years now, I love it, My wife doesn't drink coffee but she likes the teas and lattes. It is more expensive than grounds per cup, but atleast I'm not wasting coffee by throwing away a half pot of cold brew every day because I only drink a cup or so in the morning on the way to work, theres no mess, no filters just throw in a pod and go. I order the coffee disks offline through tassimo directly if you order atleast 30.00 dollars worth shipping is free and no tax.The brawn machine is noisey though, and just today we saw that bed bath and beyond has thier best bosch tassimo for 199.00 minus 20% off and 50.00 mail in rebate. We plan on getting it tomorrow. I can't say much for the keurig except with that unit you can get a cup that you can put your own grounds in and save money. But you can't get the real milk creamers for cappuchino or lattes...if you like that stuff. The keurig coffee seems good, I have friends that have them and have tried several types...but we love the tassimo.
  • I do not drink coffee. I want to Senseo Senseo pods, but hot chocolate was my real interest in Keurig check because they have a good variety of hot chocolate has.

I had a Gevalia coffee maker too, and liked it. (LOVED the coffee, but expensive!) Since my hubby doesn't drink coffee, I have some "trouble" making the right amount.
  • I don't have the Tassimo, I also have the Senseo, but the Senseo does not offer Hot Chocolate pods, and I'm actually interested in reviewing the Keurig because they have a nice variety of hot chocolate available! :-)
