Mamavation Week 3 Recap

February 15, 2010 by Ivette Muller

Oh boy – sorry this is late!

First off, I lost 1/2 pound.  Now, this is good news for me because DH surprised me with a wonderful early Valentine’s gift on Friday.  Since there are no “special” deliveries on Sunday, I received flowers (with my favorite lilys) and chocolate covered strawberries.   This was special because we had just been talking about the best chocolate strawberries we’ve ever had was about 12 years ago in San Francisco.  So, he wanted to see if he could recreate the experience for me since we won’t be taking any trips for a while.  :)

OK, back to the good news.  Since I have weaned off of sodas and only have 1 a week, I have actually found that I don’t like to drink it as much.  It doesn’t taste the same and I usually don’t even finish it.  Now, I have to say I haven’t tried this theory with Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper yet, so that might change.  So I’ve been drinking a whole lot of water and of course milk.  I can’t get off the milk.

More good news, I moved more last week!  And, we even danced after dinner last night.  We turned on the radio and the four of us danced to the Party Music channel.  We had fun!  And yes, I broke a sweat.

This week’s challenge:  Back on program.  I enjoyed the chocolate covered strawberries, but back to work.  Before Friday, I was down a full pound, so I know what they did.  (I know we’re not supposed to weight ourselves all the time, but I can’t help it.)  The weather is supposed to be nicer this week so I’m hoping to get out and walk with the girls.  It has been so windy we haven’t been able to go out for walks.  I know my girls want out of the house – truth is, so do I!

So, here’s wishing everyone a great week!

P.S.  I installed a new comment plug in called Disqus.  I miss Comment Luv’s feature that posts everyone’s last blog, but this one will help me to interact with everyone’s comments directly, rather than my comment at the end.  Sorry to spring the change on you!

A huge congrats on getting off soda. I quit about 13 or 14 years ago and now I find it rather repulsive! It's an acquired taste, apparently. Haha. Good luck with the Dr. Pepper. I hope that getting back on your program has come easily for you this week!
  • Down a pound woot woot! Congrats on the weight loss! XXOO

I soooo wish I had the same reaction to soda. Not that I feel like I *have* to have it, but I certainly enjoy it when I do. I love dance parties!!! Sounds like you had a lot of fun, along with the rest of your family. Fantastic idea! Hope you have a successful week!

  • Well, let me just add that weaning off soda has been somewhat of a progression in the making for two years too. Let's go back 3 years ago when I got pregnant - no caffeine. I LOVED diet Dr. Pepper, had to have it. Went cold turkey for the baby and had bad headaches and everything. After my first daughter was born, no caffeine due to nursing, then BOOM, got pregnant again only 4 months postpartum. Still no caffeine. So, even though I had caffeine free sodas, it wasn't the same. Even though I enjoyed the sodas I had, it really didn't feel like a big deal to go back to water. Now remember, this all holds true because I haven't had a Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper. I may have to post a confessional when I have one of those. Don't plan on buying one any time soon though - thank goodness they are hard to find here.
  • congrats on the weight loss, i think i will try weaning myself from pop this week and see if theres a difference. thats so awesom what your husband did so romantic. thanks for the comment on my page
  • Yes, my hubby is romantic despite our many challenges these days! :) Lack of sleep, energy and time for each other!

  • Whoo Hoo! Congrats. I'm wondering what those chocolate covered strawberries are going to do to me too.
  • WAY to go on the soda reduction! That is awesome and so hard! When I did it I had to do it cold turkey or knew I wouldn't be able to, lol!! CONGRATS on the loss! Keep focused and the little steps will add up to all the big changes!!

  • Thanks Trayce - it was actually easier to stop drinking soda than I thought it would be. I have always liked water (for the most part).
  • Yay Ivette! Half a pound is start in the right direction. Good for you for gradually changing your eating habits. It's amazing how when you make the changes, the stuff used to taste so good doesn't anymore. It's always hindsight isn't it?

It's beautiful what your hubby gave you...how extremely sweet and you danced and burned some calories. Way to go! :)

  • You're right Ms. Sophia, hindsight is always 20/20. I enjoy water, just don' t know why I didn't stop drinking sodas before. We had fun dancing BTW, both my girls LOVE music. :)
