Tassimo vs. Keurig – And the winner is…

Keurig by a landslide!

A couple of months ago, I began asking for opinions of coffee brewing systems.  My blog post The Great Coffee Maker Debate:  Tassimo vs. Keurig vs. ? is one of my most viewed posts to date.  I received a few comments on the blog, but most came from my tweeps on Twitter.  And overwhelmingly, the feedback was Keurig was tops.

I really put a lot of value into what bloggers, tweeps and commentors on my blog have to say.  Why is that? Simply put, I trust their opinion more than I do any commercial.  In my other blog post, What Kind of Influence Do Bloggers Have? I put the question out to everyone to see who’s opinion matters most.  And I found out I am not alone…

So what is it about the Keurig that made me change my mind?  What feature(s) really made a difference for me?

THE ABILITY TO USE ANY BRAND OF COFFEE!!!

Keurig sells a resusable coffee filter that allows you to use any gourmet coffee.  This seals the deal for me because I LOVE Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.  And, this even helps reduce costs even more because you don’t have to buy their K Cups.  (Of course, I’ll still want to because I want the other range of flavors they offer.)

Aside from the reusable filter, I really like the variety of cup sizes available (4 oz, 6 oz, 8 oz, 10 oz and 12 oz), the setting to make iced beverages and their trademarked QuietBrew technology.  (This feature is a must when I actually wake up a few minutes before my girls and I want to enjoy some coffee.  My Senseo is LOUD!)  :(

So, now my quest/hinting/begging begins.  Dear Hubby, if you see this post, this is what I want for Mother’s Day.

Disclosure: These are my Amazon affiliate links. If you use them to buy your own Keurig, I might earn enough money to buy a K Cup. :)

The Keurig are great machines, and the My K-Cup’s ability to use your own coffee, tea or cocoa is a huge advantage over the Tassimo. I also think the Keurigs look a little bit sexier than the Tassimos as well :)

Tassimos are a lot better to me, they do more and prepare your lattes etc better. This is definately an opinion hands down! hah

I would agree that it’s definitely up to everyone’s opinion and what works best for them! I haven’t tried a Tassimo, but I’ve heard great things about it. I wish I could test them side by side. The main reason I chose Keurig is because of the ability to use any coffee, however, that’s probably one of the reasons that the Tassimo would make consistently better coffee…no user errors!! :)

    Thanks for commenting!

I have had a Tassimo for years. I was given a new Keurig. What a disappointment!!!! All the coffee I tried tasted like warmed dish water. No strength. Let me put it this way, I gave my Keurig away and went back to my Tassimo. The extraction method for the Keurig is fatally flawed. Not enough pressure, force, or what?? I know they sell a lot of machines but don’t be deceived. If you like weak flavorless coffee, go for it.

Good to know! Thanks for commenting! I’d still like to try a Tassimo for a side by side comparison. :)

I purchased a keurig last Valentines Day for my wife. I am now on my fifth replacement.

What is the problem with theses machines. I think I will try the Tassimo. They may not have the variety of pods but I think it is worth a try.

Check all the postings for Tassimo vs. Keurig that let the people vote and you’ll find people that use them pick Tassimo by close to 2-1 over Keurig. Enough said…

I have both. Tassimo is a superior machine but the coffee offerings bite. Kraft foods brands can’t compete against Caribou and the likes, so Keurig sells. The Starbucks offerings brew very well in the Tassimo, as do the Mastro Lorenzo Crema and the Gevalia Expresso. Also, the Suchard hot chocolate is great on a cold winter’s day. It’s really too bad that the Tassimo technology is wasted on mainly poor quality coffee. Kraft made a big marketing blunder by trying to gain larger profit margins through limiting use to their own brands.

I’m a college student and I just found the bog and comments very helpful in my quest to decide-on-a-coffee-maker-for-my-suite. Thanks for doing a lot of the research for me, much appreciated!

I like my Tassimo , only flaw is you cannot do your own single serving like Keurig.  Sure wish Tassimo would come up with that technology.

  • http://www.wahmbahm.com Ivette Muller

Oh really, I had no idea. I thought that’s what the new Tassimo “bot” machine was for – but who wants to buy a whole new machine when the other one works fine? :)

Thanks for visiting and posting! I would love to try a Tassimo to compare the two machines. But unless I “get” one to review, I won’t be trying one any time soon. HA!

    one thing I don’t understand.
Keurig will brew difference size cups but the K cups are all the same size.
If you choose a larger cup size does it just add more water??

Never read your blog before. What I took away from it is that you want someone to give you a free Tassimo.

  • http://www.wahmbahm.com Ivette Muller

You know Jay – that’s a really great point! I only have the Keurig B30 which is the small personal version. Since I can only brew one size cup I haven’t experience that issue.

Let me see if I can find someone who can answer this question first hand. I’d like to know too before I upgrade to a bigger machine. Thanks for posting that and bringing it to my attention! :)

It would be nice…but highly unlikely since I’m already a Keurig owner.

    Unless you’re offering one :)
