Ivette -

I agree that people have gotten lazy about how they communicate.

Thank you for posting this great reminder.

One time I sent a woman a private email (if it wasn't personal wouldn't it have been a public comment on her blog?) telling her that I had done something to my hair that I knew wasn't good for me asking her advice. Same week. She turned me into a post on her blog! She took out my name but left soooo much information on there that if anyone was really wanting to know who she was talking about they could find out. Come on people, show some class! Right? :o)

My best, Lynn

Etiquette, of ANY sort, is sorely lacking right now. I confess to being overwhelmed now and then in that I am not replying instantly every time like I ordinarily do (I have sort of created too much expectation of being so responsive and now that expectation is stressful at times) but I do think email has some very unfortunate side issues at times.

Typically, though, advice like this is "preaching to the choir" since those who really need to hear it are not reading the right things.

I have had several odd email problems. One, in particular, occurred years ago when I was getting flooded with stupid forwarded emails by my customers. The problem, besides the obvious, is that I worked so hard to have a personal relationship with customers who I only met online that they began to think of me as a friend. With that came their including me in their forwarded junk. I VERY politely emailed my customer base and asked that my business email remain only about business OR about a personal note to me and not as a destination point for any forward of any kind whatsoever. I added that, most importantly, forwards are carriers of viruses. I had one gal get so upset that she replied very nastily that she was including me so I'd be part of her social group and how insulted she was and that she never wanted to hear from me again. I think that said more about her than about me but I replied with a apology if I offended her but that I had to stand firm about my request. I never heard from her again. It was really surprising how upset and angry she got.

I have another friend who emails me what she wants in the subject line. I hate that!

Lastly, I run a business off email so I really get miffed when a customer decides she does not want my product any longer and rather than simply emailing me to ask to get off my circulation list, she marks me as Spam. I had that happen twice but not recently. It's a headache to get your ISP to unblock you as it hampered all my email sending ability.

Anyway, you can never talk too much about etiquette!

Thank you "Working Mama" - you just made my day/month/year! I am so glad that you find the information useful! That's what I am hoping to accomplish with this blog so that we can all learn together. (And helpfully someone will not make the same mistakes I have!)

Thanks for stopping by from MBC - visiting your blog now and already following via Google Friend Connect!

Oh, my god. I commend you for holding back and not getting into an "e-mail war", like you said. I'm not sure what I would have done but I am definitely extremely offended just by reading about this story.

Anyone with good business sense knows that in a second, the tables can turn, especially in this industry. They may be needing to approach you for help with promoting THEIR blog! Too bad they don't realize this fact.

On another note, great blog! Full of truly relevant and useful information. Following you from MBC!
